New Home - Paradise?

My Auntie predicted that the children’s home where I’m now staying is more like a 4**** Hotel than a place for orphans and vulnerable children.
So it is.
It’s an incredible place where I feel comfortable.

The children’s home is located very quietly in a dry and hot area close to Nairobi.
At the moment 70 children accomodate there from the age of 3 - 20-something.
I have my own dormitory with 8 beds! (so come and visit me 😃, there’s space enough)!

What I find most impressing is that the children’s home is trying to be subsistencial, which indicates:
  • their own borehole for water (-selling)
  • two greenhouses with tomatoes
  • fields with varies veggies (sukuma wiki, lettuce, brussel sprouts, pawpaws, maize etc.)
  • preparing their own "first class" humus
  • several animals such as: chicken, cows, ducks, (dogs,) goats, rabbits, sheep, turkeys...
  • a small shop where food  is sold  (e.g. Omelette out of eggs from their hens)
Additional to that there’s a school (grade 4-8) in the next village, which belongs to the children’s home. And even in the home itself is a small school with classes from babyclass till grade 4.
Also children from the village go to that schools.
Today I have met the deputy- & the headteacher and was quite surprised how comitted they are.
I was so touched how much care and attention they in education and raising of each single child invest.
You might wonder what my duties here will be...?
Hmm in fact I can choose what I want to do.
In first place there’s the responsibility to spend love and shelter to the kids (which actually is no big deal for me because I lov’em all)...

In second place I will start a music class in school, trying to teach them how to play the flute and read notes. If I'm in the mood I can also teach anything else (maths -> ohhh noo!!!, sciences, sports etc..).
Here’s also another volunteering student from the village who designes new brochures for the children’s home. We decided to prepare a drama play (maybe with elements of flute music) for christmas-time together.

Ahh and to learn Swahili faster I decided to attend classes in school (where I’ll be with ~ 7-year olds).

...I see the crystal raindrops fall
And the beauty of it all
Is when the sun comes shining through
To make those rainbows in my mind
When I think of you sometime
And I want to spend some time with you...

I’ll stay in this Children’s home for around 5 or 6 months. After I’m planning to do an internship at the cosmeticfactory Nice&Lovely for my university entrance.
I really can’t complain about life....
